Within the natural beauty of Tuscany reside some of the finest gardens ever created. Bathed in light, these gardens feature fountains, containers, statuary, water elements and architectural plantings that all come together in an unforgettable style, and people flock from all over the world to experience this breathtaking landscape. Visitors to Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Geis Terrace, one of the most popular gathering places in University Circle, will be delighted to find many of these same elements as they linger over an al fresco lunch or a Wednesday evening glass of wine (the Garden is open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays). Chefs from Cleveland’s hottest restaurants will teach you how to infuse Italian flavor into your home cooking as part of the Wednesday Gourmets at the Garden cooking series. On Monday, August 27, Farm to Table, the popular collaboration between the Garden and North Union Farmers Market, features top chefs preparing food that is local, fresh, and, of course, Italian. Giardini di Toscana (Gardens in Tuscany), a special exhibit featuring 50 photographs of the Tuscan region, is also making its American debut at the Garden. If your summer and fall travel plans don’t include a trip to Italy, you can still get a delicious taste of Tuscany at Cleveland Botanical Garden. Visit www.cbgarden.org for complete details.
On Friday August 17, join Pinky’s Daily Planner and Busy Broad Millinery for a shopping event in Tower Press, located at 1900 Superior Avenue in Cleveland, for an after work cocktail party from 5 to 9 p.m. At Pinky’s Daily Planner (Tower Press Suite #329), visit the last days of Pinky’s spring exhibit and spring promotions, including Pinky’s sale items, indie designer clothes and accessories, spring Japanese dresses and artwork by Cathie Bleck. The event also features previews from Pinky’s fall collection and from new fall indie collections. Across the hall at Busy Broad Millinery (Tower Press Suite #331), see hand-made hats in fall colors and fabrics by Marta Glazen, including crocheted berets and metallic resort selections, as well as couture millinery from New York. Busy Broad will also feature designer vintage dresses from Suite Lorain. On August 18 from 5 to 10 p.m., stop by both showrooms during a Tower Press block party, featuring Managed Confinement’s (Tower Press Suite #330) unique prison museum, with authentic artifacts from various Ohio penitentiaries and memorabilia from the history of jails in movies. Managed Confinement will also be open to the public for one night only as a gentlemen’s club, where boyfriends and husbands can relax and drink while the ladies shop. Each suite will feature its own selection of music, plus drinks and light appetizers, on the evening of August 18, and there is no cover charge. Busy Broad and Pinky’s will have Saturday afternoon calling hours beginning at noon; visitors must be buzzed into the building.
